About me

I went to a Public school in Blackpool, Lancashire and came away with English & Law A-levels so Law School seemed a natural progression. I moved to London in 1976 and started work as an office messenger at a solicitor’s firm in the West End of London.  A year later they offered to train me as a clerk but I had by then secured a place at the College of Law.  In January 1985 I qualified as a solicitor and worked for firms in the West End and City before co-founding a niche law firm specialising in Property and Company related matters.  We rode through a recession at the end of which the firm had evolved into a very different animal, and one which I wasn’t very happy with so I left and set up a new practice working on my own from home. Rangeley & Co was born.

That was a very wise decision on my part at the time and proved a successful venture.  I specialized in representing property dealers and developers in the commercial and residential sectors but have also enjoyed dealing with residential properties.  There is something very satisfying in helping people acquire their dream home or avoid what could be their worst nightmare and sometimes a commercial approach works well in a house buying scenario!

However success can be a downer and servicing the constant influx of new work with limited assistance became more than a full time job.  Sometimes 12 hours a day 6 days a week – it wasn’t good.  Eventually with various other pressures I sold my business, then found myself slap bang in the middle of another recession. Not my smartest move!

I have been working with two family businesses in recent years and providing support and advice in certain planning and property matters but I do miss private practice and negotiating deals. I will shortly take up a position as a full time consultant with the practice I sold my firm to and, if all goes to plan, I will probably open a new office for them specialising again in property and property related matters but with the benefit of being part of a larger organisation and so be able to provide a broader range of services to my clients.

I still have a good network of contacts; mortgage providers, surveyors and the like available to provide support and assistance in a wide range of property matters.  So if you have any queries contact me - if I don’t know the answer I may know someone who does.  click here to email me with any enquiries
